Prepare for your Notary appointment
1 Schedule your notary appointment
2. Gather your original written instrument/document to be notarized
3. Bring an acceptable form of identification (guidelines outlined below)
Notary personal knowledge of the signer through interaction and association with the individual that established his/her identity
Current signed government-issued photo ID (ex. Passport, Driver's license, or State ID)
Witness to a signer:
The witness must be believable
The witness must personally know the signer
Two witnesses must present identification to the notary if the witnesses are not known to the notary
The notary places the witness under oath where the witness swears to or affirms the identity of the document signer
The notary proceeds with the notarization of the original document, naming the oath of the credible witness as the form of identification used for the document signer
